Becoming An Outdoors Woman in New Mexico

Scholarships:

Every year, the Friends of the National Rifle Association committee in New Mexico makes available money for the Sarah J. Rockhold Scholarship Fund.   These are partial scholarships and we encourage women who are full time students, teachers, single parents and any others to apply.  A paragraph or two describing the circumstances is all that is required.  There is no background check or financial information required to apply.

  • basic backpacking
  • basic fishing
  • basic map & compass
  • basic rifle skills
  • bowhunting
  • car camping NM state parks
  • creative gourds
  • Dutch oven cooking
  • field dressing big game
  • fly fishing
  • fly tying
  • GPS navigation
  • basic handgun shooting
  • introduction to defensive shooting
  • introduction to firearms & firearms safety
  • muzzleloading rifle & pistol
  • nature photography
  • New Mexico wild flowers
  • self-defense for outdoor women
  • shotgunning for the beginner
  • survival skills
  • talk to the animals
  • tracking and sign cutting
  • wild game sausage making
  • wilderness cooking in foil
  • wildlife identification
  • xeriscape gardening for wildlife
  • and more!  

Who Can Attend:

  • Anyone 18 year of age or older who wishes to learn outdoor skills
  • You have never tried these activities but have wished for an opportunity to learn
  • You are a beginner who hopes to improve your skills
  • You would like to try new outdoor activities
  • You are looking for the camaraderie of other women who enjoy the outdoors
